We have been buggy about insects this month! It has been so fun to see the kids learning about entomology! To end our unit, we had a guest entomologist in!! Terry DeVries, from UNL's Research Facility near Clay Center, came to talk about the importance of insects. Did you know that 1 out of 3 things you eat is pollinated by insects? Did you know dragonflies help control the mosquito population? Did you know that 60,000 honeybees can live in a bee hive?
We got to see many foods that grow from the help of bees, held some Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches and saw meal worm larva, pupa and the adult beetles.
All month, kids have been collecting Cicada molts. So far, we have collected over 1,400 molts!
Get outside and enjoy nature!
